So a funny thing happened last week. I was selected to be a member of New Zealand’s IT Advisory Board.

Woooooooow.

Now I’m a random fulla at the best of times and for the past 9 years have fought tooth and nail against the National Government and in turn, the Maori Party when it came to Maori IT.

As a member of the Digital Maori Forum, we spent ten years connecting with whanau who lived, loved and breathed IT. All over the country. Across different platform and interfaces and hardwares, facing similar yet differing sets of challenges.

From Rangikainga back in 2002 to TangataWhenua.com and on to our support of Te Huarahi Tika Trust, the Ka Hao Fund, and subsequently Digital Natives Academy, Digital Basecamp and now 4CB and Kumara Patch – daaaam. Intense. Now we are about to bring together the best our country has to offer and approach 2 big kaupapa. Digital Inclusion. And digital Economy. That’s huge. Can’t wait to mahi.

The hui today down at Te Ao Marama was beautiful. New trustees for Kauae Urupa. Mihaere and Kingi.

I wasn’t able to get a pic of Te Takinga hui but it was about the future, our ablution block and the water, do we need a door in the back of the Wharenui, Health and safety responsibilities and Trustees and photos on the wall. Whanau, marae kaupapa.

So – back to being as advisor.

As I mentioned at the beginning of the year, my aim was to get better (which I have – sleep better, eat better, spend quality time with my whanau), to grow our mahi into Maori Unicorn Status and now, to build this Maori Digital Centre in the heart of Rotorua.

It was also to listen more.

Which means for now, I’ll look forward to learning from some of the best minds, get connection and accessing new digital opportunities. Whaaaa. Mean tho whanau.that’s us.
