Green and Tranquil

Most of us are reluctant to use a lot of glass in tropical construction. From my experience it is an essential element, correctly positioned.

Light brightens up the space , if you use natural light in abundance the quality of space transforms accordingly . Careful positioning of the openings that bring in light and ventilation is easy to achieve by paying close attention to the sun path. In the tropics, the eastern and western sun can cause a lot of glare and heat up a building. Ideally the openings should be positioned to face north and south so that the shorter faces of the building faces east and west. That way the longer face can accommodate more fenestrations that will bring diffused light. In certain building sites this may be a bit difficult to achieve, Not Impossible! Amazing results can sometimes be achieved by just breaking up your building mass in to smaller segments with pockets of garden in between that actually help you to orientate your openings in the correct direction.

By creating enough pockets of greenery around your building, you will end up with framed views of trees and shrubs from within. The experience of living/ working right next to a tree separated only by an invisible full height glass can channel your imagination to the forest that you always dreamt of having a picnic under a big tree.
