How do ethics scale with a business?

Ethics are an essential component of an organization and define how that organization operates. As an organization matures and scales they often warp their own ethical climate by enacting too much change too quickly. Change in management initiatives can cause this change in ethical climate and these initiatives can change to due various reasons, such as mergers or acquisitions. Additionally, an organizations ethical climate can warp due to incentives or pressure to inflate the achievement of targets. For example, managers at Wells Fargo were highly rewarded for the number of accounts they opened and managed so the organization focused on quantity over quality. This led to many managers opening accounts that customers did not request and ultimately led to their ethical climate warping. When a business scales, their ethics accompany them along the way and sometimes they can change to fit the businesses needs at the time. To maintain their ethics, many leaders in business build strong and diverse personal networks to seek advise so that their ethics can be sustained as they scale.
