Do We Need an Agile Coach?

Due to the evolution of the customer’s needs, it has become essential to go along and try the methods that best fit those needs. Due to these changes, organizations have been forced to shed off the old Traditional Methodology that embraced directive leadership to Agile Leadership which creates a focused Organization. Now that the need to transform or improve Agile has come, Agile Coaches are needed more than ever. In this article, we will look at if and why the role of an Agile Coach is crucial for transformation.

Agile Coaches are creative, reflective and non-directive people who guide and mentor individuals or organizations through adopting Agile Framework or improving the current Agile system. Making significant organizational changes can be challenging since the members must learn to adapt and embrace changes. It might require a shift of cultures and even the way of Leadership.

As we have seen, Agile Leadership is one of a kind. It requires the bosses to stop being bossy and managers to reduce control to achieve independent thinking among the scrum teams. We have just visualized an ideal example of how Agile might be challenging to adopt. It’s where an Agile Coach comes in.

Note: Before deciding to introduce Agile or improve this Framework, it would be wise first to get Agile Training and certification to get a deeper understanding of the principles and Values of Agile. It can aid in the smooth transition to Agile, a framework that has been proven beneficial.

An organization undergoing difficult times due to Agile transformation requires an Agile coach. For a company that feels the hardships will be temporary, you are advised to go for a contracted Agile coach. On the other hand, a big organization that constantly faces new changes in the teams, management, and even production requires a permanent Agile coach to oversee the changes. Now let’s look at a few benefits of having an Agile Coach.

Sometimes, we think that the Project Manager is supposed to cut off dependency from one team to another and from teams to management. It’s not completely true. Embracing Agility means that dependencies must be mitigated, and the PM can do less regarding this. An Agile Coach can help resolve dependencies since they can look at the whole organization in a broader scope.

We all know the role of a coach. Then you are familiar with a coach being a mentor. It also applies to the Agile coach. Exploring new fields, subjects, or methods can always be challenging. We all need someone to help us navigate the highs and lows of this concept. Agile coaches, mentors, and guides the organization through the Agile Methodology and ensures a successful transition for the whole organization.

One of the most important aspects of Agile is communication, which needs effective communication. For Agile Teams, effective communication can be through messaging, emailing, virtual and physical meetings and many other methods. The Agile coach is the one to help in establishing means and guidelines of communication. The main aim is to improve the teams’ productivity, build chemistry and ensure informed discussion.

There is always the expected resistance to adapting the Agile Methodology for the executive and management section. Earlier, we saw that the Leadership would need help accepting Agile Leadership since it reduces their overall power and authority in the Executive and enforces independence and freedom for the Agile teams to work with optimum productivity. Agile Coaches are the ones to help the Executive see the bigger picture. They help them have trust in Agile and the final result, which will improve the organization drastically.

Having worked with various companies, a professional Agile Coach can be reassuring in times of doubt. They have worked on many challenges with different teams and were able to do it. Why should you doubt that the current situation is different? Why should you doubt they will be able to help?
