What if Birth and Death were Reversed?

NATIONAL POETRY MONTH, APRIL 21 #NAPOWRIMO

in terms of celebration…

What if birth and death were reversed?
I mean, what if death was the big cause celebré?
If death was when party hats were donned,
streamers strung, candles blown, and songs sung?

What if the best place to live
was where we go when we die?
Full of white light, free-flowing angels in flight,
no earthy emotional baggage to weigh us down,
no discomfort, disease, or reason to frown?

What if death was an instant release?
Like taking off a girdle or tight-fitting bodice?
Freedom from want, worry, and worldly possessions.
A time to praise and pray without making concessions?

And birth, poor, sweet birth?
A time to mourn, dress in black?
A time to bide till we get to go back?
Bring messages from God to all our friends,
reminding them of the joy to come in time without ends?
