Do I have any metal?

So here I am in the hospital (that’s not me in the photo by the way, I forgot to get a photograph). My appointment isn’t until eleven am and it is just after quarter past ten. They wanted me here thirty minutes before my appointment, which to my overly logical brain makes the appointment ten-thirty am.

My appointment is to have a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan on my prostrate. This is to do with my ‘water-works’ issue that I have previously shared. Another person who has also checked in at MRI Reception has just found out that she will need to have an injection of contrast material into her blood stream. Apparently, she has a strong needle phobia and now is having to steel herself to have an injection that terrifies her despite the receptionist saying “well no one can force you to have an injection you don’t want” which to me, although a true statement of fact, is unhelpful to say the very least. The woman, bless her, is brighter than the guy at reception, more nuanced and someone who thinks for herself. I instantly take a small shine to her. Then on a table in front of me, one my lap, out of the container across the room; eventually in the palm of my hand. Those are probably someone’s stories, but they are not mine. My arachnophobia cure came to me whilst one holiday, you can read about that holiday here, I won’t spoil it, but spiders weren’t involved.

She discussed the needle issue with her husband. I don’t know if he was her husband, or anyone’s husband, or whether she was married at all, in a civil partnership, single, or anything about her relationship status. However, she had arrived with a man, the man seemed generally bored, not wanting to be there but resigned to having to be there. Now that could be me tomorrow when I take my…
