What is Love?

A question for the ages.

Trying to define love often feels like trying to define time. We know what it is, we understand its effects, but trying to put it into a clear definition of a few words can frustrate even the most articulate among us.

Love is such a broad and complicated concept, that we see it everywhere. We see it as romance, as the force behind familial and friendship bonds; we find it our feelings about nature and about strangers (altruism and charity), and in how we feel about ourselves (self-love).

Love, whatever its kind, flourishes through action. When we show how much we care, show that we’re paying attention and can be trusted, in short, when we put effort into loving, our love flourishes and we receive what we’ve put on and then some.

Love is the result of feelings propelling actions. Love — or what we mistake for love — becomes an impulse to some of our best and worst decisions.

Love, sometimes, makes a fool of us.
